【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Walking with Shadows is a book of exile and of odyssey: the incredible and moving story of a young Polish freedom fighter, Joe Tarnowski, who survived the frozen hell of the war-time Soviet Gulag to travel half-way round the globe to join the Free Polish Forces in Scotland.A Paratrooper who fought through the bloody slaughter of Arnhem, Joe tells of his time as a soldier-policeman among the ruins of the Third Reich, as a displaced person struggling to build a new life in post-war Britain and as a successful electronics engineer whose pioneering work was to take him round the world in a very different way.It is the story of an idyllic childhood, of war and peace, of love and hope, of tragedy and renewal, of family and friends lost and found. It is one mans story and the story of Europe: the old Europe which finally died with the collapse of the Soviet Empire and the new Europe heralded by the rise of Solidarnosc .It is the story of a family man, a man of wit, insight, irony and humour; a man who did outfrown false fortunes frown to embrace life whole once more.Walking with Shadows is an inspiring tribute to the human spirit: to the will to survive, to commemorate and to celebrate.Josef Tarnowski retired from his post as an electronics engineer some years ago. In addition to keeping up an association with Poland, he has devoted his retirement to writing the story of his life.Raymond Raszkowski Ross is a playwright, journalist and editor; and a creative writing tutor with the Open University and the University of Edinburgh. It is the story of an idyllic childhood, of war and peace, of love and hope, of tragedy and renewal, of family and friends lost and found. 【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】
Out of nowhere, the storms of life hit us without warning. The loss of a loved one, a broken relationship, loss of a job and properties. A terrible accident, illness or the failure of a business. This is tough challenges that people all over the world are being confronted with daily in their respective life. We don’t have the power to choose what happens to us, neither can we as humans choose the nature and severity of the problems and challenges that confronts us every day. But one thing we sure can do, and has the power to control is the way we respond to these challenges and how we fight through it. Life is like an ocean and every one of us are born sailors, sailing through this ocean. Everybody shall one day encounter a storm, be it the wealthy, the educated, the poor, the uneducated, the single or married, the sick or healthy. The storms of life is not a respecter of race, religion or country of birth but rather a respecter of courage, boldness, persistent, firmness of purpose and positive attitude.
Walking tall in tough times, is a book that will certainly arm and spur you to take tough decisions and actions necessary to bring about a change in your life. It will also help you change your negative perceptions and response to the challenges you are going through and put you on a part to true success. The principles and practical steps that are outlined in this book is not based on head knowledge, but rather are founded on experiential knowledge and scriptural examples that will certainly leave transformed. This book will undoubtedly stir you to leave your comfort zone to your rightful place of influence and power. It will forge you to become uncomfortable with mediocrity and average existence. Buckle up as I take you through this journey of self-freedom and reawakening. Happy read.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。

    【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】
Walking With The Analysts is a gripping, often gut-wrenching novel in which the worlds of Wall Street and third-world poverty collide. Renowned money manager Johnny Long accomplishes for himself the challenge of bridging these seemingly disparate worlds together. Racing against the clock in a desperate attempt to rescue an African hospital from financial ruin -- saving countless lives in the process ? Johnny Long must adapt his investment strategies to stave off the erosion of a deteriorating economic environment. There is far more at stake for Johnny Long than simply landing a new account. There are lives at stake… men, women and children. And values extend beyond portfolio worth.

The novel is set in Botswana, a country ravished by poverty, starvation and disease. In a country where over 50% of the population is HIV positive, the Princess Diana Hospital provides the only chance of survival these people will ever know. However, disaster looms ominously as the hospital teeters on the verge of fiscal collapse. Crippled by mounting expenses and catastrophic declines in income as bond and CD interest rates fall, the Directors are faced with a terrible decision ? should they continue investing their endowment for maximum current income or change the policy of the endowment to a strategy of income growth.

The disciplines taught and the lessons learned in this fictional account of one man’s attempt to change his little part of the world are applicable to everyday investing in ways that transcend the page. Thus, Walking With The Analysts is more than a primer on income investing. It is also a tale about the human spirit and what it takes to triumph in our darkest hour, a tale about the vast potential of the human spirit.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。

    【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】
Artist and writer Emmy Savage can't recall a time when she was happier than when she was hiking as a teenager in the High Sierra. So when she retired at sixty-five, she moved from her home in Maryland to the mountains of South Central Colorado to be closer to nature and to God. In her memoir, Walking the Stations in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Savage discovers that wilderness can be hostile, human communities unfriendly, and the spiritual life fraught with difficulty. Surrounded by incredible beauty, she also witnesses the degradation of the environment by climate change and destructive water use policies. Still, she is determined to live by faith and so begins recording her walks, often during Lent, into the mountains. Noticing birds on the trail, a singing thrush or a scolding kinglet, breathing the scent of pine resin, and noticing the sound of wind and water become a spiritual practice. In the exquisite and fragile landscape of the Sangre de Cristo, walking becomes a celebration, a prayer of devotion, and an act of love.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。

For instance:

・ Walking in cold weather burns extra fat and builds more muscle.
・ Walking alone strengthens our memories.
・ Walking in woodland helps us sleep.
・ And there's nothing more restorative than a romantic nighthike.

Our choice of location, time, direction, duration, walking companion and gait, as well as the weather we opt to walk in, can transform our daily stroll. Here, Annabel Streets shares the thrill of 52 different ways to walk, explaining the latest science behind each one, and providing practical tips for making the most of your daily steps.

52 Ways to Walk is a revelatory and informative handbook for anyone stuck in a walking rut, curious about the lesser-known benefits of walking or merely in need of some on-foot novelty and adventure.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。

Within the space of three years, New York Times best-selling author and six-sensory spiritual teacher Sonia Choquette had suffered the unexpected death of two close family members, seen her marriage implode, and been let down by trusted colleagues. And sympathy was not forthcoming. "You’re a world-renowned intuitive guide and teacher," people jeered. "How could you not have seen this coming?" Having intuitive abilities didn’t make her superhuman, however. Nor did it exempt her from being wounded or suffering the pain of loss and the consequences of our all-too-human traits such as anger, resentment, and prideーtraits that can lead even the best of us to stray from our path.

In order to regain her spiritual footing, Sonia turned to the age-old practice of pilgrimage and set out to walk the legendary Camino de Santiago, an 800-kilometer (500-mile) trek over the Pyrenees and across northern Spain. Day after day she pushed through hunger, exhaustion, and pain to reach her destination. Eventually, mortification of the flesh gave way to spiritual renewal, and she rediscovered the gifts of humility and forgiveness that she needed to repair her world.

In this riveting book, Sonia shares the intimate details of her grueling experience, as well as the unexpected moments of grace, humor, beauty, and companionship that supported her through her darkest hours. While her journey is unique, the lessons she learnedーabout honoring your relationships with others as well as with your own higher self, and forgiving all elseーare universal.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。

    【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】
Human beings are both supremely rational and deeply superstitious, capable of believing just about anything and of questioning just about everything. Indeed, just as our reason demands that we know the truth, our skepticism leads to doubts we can ever really do so. In Walking the Tightrope of Reason, Robert J. Fogelin guides readers through a contradiction that lies at the very heart of philosophical inquiry. Fogelin argues that our rational faculties insist on a purely rational account of the universe, yet at the same time, the inherent limitations of these faculties ensure that we will never fully satisfy that demand. As a result of being driven to this point of paradox, we either comfort ourselves with what Kant called "metaphysical illusions" or adopt a stance of radical skepticism. No middle ground seems possible and, as Fogelin shows, skepticism, even though a healthy dose of it is essential for living a rational life, "has an inherent tendency to become unlimited in its scope, with the result that the edifice of rationality is destroyed." In much Postmodernist thought, for example, skepticism takes the extreme form of absolute relativism, denying the basis for any value distinctions and treating all truth-claims as equally groundless. How reason avoids disgracing itself, walking a fine line between dogmatic belief and self-defeating doubt, is the question Fogelin seeks to answer. Reflecting upon the ancient Greek skeptics as well as such thinkers as Hume, Kant, Wittgenstein, Nietzsche, and Whitman, this book takes readers into--and through--some of philosophy's most troubling paradoxes.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。

Angela Impey investigates contrasting accounts of this little-known geopolitical triangle, offsetting textual histories with the memories of a group of elderly women whose songs and everyday practices narrativize a century of borderland dynamics. Drawing evidence from women’s walking songs (*amaculo manihamba)ー*once performed while traversing vast distances to the accompaniment of the European mouth-harp (isitweletwele)ーshe uncovers the manifold impacts of internationally-driven transboundary environmental conservation on land, livelihoods, and local senses of place.

This book links ethnomusicological research to larger themes of international development, environmental conservation, gender, and local economic access to resources.
