Wells setting forth his beliefs in four "books" entitled "Metaphysics," "Of Belief," "Of General Conduct," and "Some Personal Things." Parts of the book were published in the Independent Magazine in July and August 1908. Wells revised the book extensively in 1917, in response to his religious conversion, but later published a further revision in 1929 that restored much of the book to its earlier form. Its main intellectual influences are Darwinism and certain German thinkers Wells had read, such as August Weismann. 【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】
In a society where a common servant girl doesn’t have much in the way of prospects, Faith’s plain appearance and sharp tongue make a good match even more unlikely. But finding a husband is the least of Faith’s worries when she finds herself caught between a beautiful swordswoman and her grotesque, monstrous prey.

Given as a reward to the huntress, Faith is beyond terrified. According to rumors, these less-than-human slayers share too many qualities with the creatures they kill for a living, but Faith can’t deny the strange spark between Valac and her.

Val used to think cutting away parts of her humanity was a worthwhile exchange for wreaking vengeance on the monsters who threaten her people, but lately she’s gotten tired of her profession. Val believes her assignment in a remote city in the mountains is simple until a servant girl’s arrival stirs emotions Val thought she’d abandoned long ago. If Faith is capable of invoking unbridled passion then the best thing Val could do is stay away, but when Faith’s life hangs on the balance, can Val risk all to save her?
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。

Ahead of him was his mother, also on her bike; behind him, two "uncles" recruited by his father to oversee this little caravan as it fled to safety into the early morning darkness. There was a suitcase on each bike. Eddie's two little sisters each sat on a suitcase behind an "uncle."
They traveled to a small town named Zweeloo, 25 to 30 miles from their home. The going was hard, with headwinds, and fear of German checkpoints. 【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】
Today we are all too well acquainted with a view of work and economics as necessary evilsーmeans to an end. Our culture shouts its disapproval of work as bothersome, if necessary. It is conflicted over competing economic views and challenges the notion that one system can be better than all the rest. Even in the church the importance of work and economics can be undermined or dismissed. But what if we took great joy in our work? What if we began to develop an economic vision that reflects God's own design?

In How God Makes the World a Better Place David Wright and his team challenge teachers, preachers, and business leaders to use their influence to create, maintain, and affirm communities that value work and that value the systems that make work possible and rewarding for the most people. They are urged to inspire in others the dignity of labor and achievement that leads to real meaning and satisfaction. They must ensure that the world creates economic, legal, and organizational structures that enable work that truly will make the world a better place.

As the authors look back in time, many of the principles they outline are drawn directly from the lives of John and Charles Wesleyーtwo devoted ministers of the gospel who took their work seriously as a tool for serving God. In doing so they transformed the spiritual landscape of England at the dawn of the Industrial Revolution. John Wesley was particularly captivated by the truth that we are created in the image of God. 【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】
Three little girls were looking out of the window on a very wet afternoon in March. They were so close together in age and height that sometimes two of them were taken for twins, yet there was a year between each of them. And they were unlike each other in looks. Charity, the eldest, had a quantity of red auburn hair down her back. She was very lively and talkative, and her eyes were always sparkling with fun and happiness. Hope, next to her in age, had fair golden hair and blue eyes; she was sweet tempered and rather apt to be an echo of anyone with whom she was. Faith, the youngest, was a quiet child, with short, dark, curly hair, and thoughtful brown eyes. She had a very sweet little face, but looked fragile and delicate beside her rosy, sturdy sisters. It was not a very cheerful scene outside the window. One of those quiet, dingy streets towards the outskirts of London, where rows of houses faced each other, all exactly alike, and where the only traffic was the tradesmen's carts rattling along, and an occasional cab or motor. But the little girls were talking fast and happily. The rain beating against the window panes did not depress them. The dark grey sky, the wet pavements, the wind whirling the smoke along the street from the chimneys opposite, the people hurrying by under sodden umbrellas, all interested the six bright eyes. And at last three voices shouted happily: "Here she comes, Granny! Here's Aunt Alice!" They left their post at the window and rushed to the door. Mrs. Blair, their grandmother, who was sitting in an easy chair by the fire, knitting small stockings, sprang up as if she were twenty instead of nearly seventy. She took a small kettle off the hob, and poured the hot water into a teapot. Tea was laid on a round table in the middle of the room. There was only a loaf of bread and a pot of treacle, but everything was very bright and clean; and the little room looked quite cheerful in contrast to the grey, dingy street outside. There was a canary hanging up in the window, and a handsome black cat sat washing its face on the hearthrug. Bright pictures were on the walls, and in the centre of the table was a big bunch of yellow daffodils.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。

A significant lapse of time had passed since America had engaged in the horrors of war. After the war of 1812, little memory remained of the fact that war could be “hell.” A veteran of the war with Mexico, General “Stonewall” Jackson wrote to his wife and said, “People who are anxious to bring on war don’t know what they are bargaining for; they don’t see all the horrors that must accompany such an event.”When the prospect of a War Between the States became a reality, the average age of a young soldier was twenty-two. To an aspiring young man who was bored with “life on the farm,” the romanticism and exhilaration of battle was an allurement that soon tried the faith and physical stamina of all who crossed war’s threshold. The threat of losing life and limb from a hailstorm of bullets and shrapnel was compounded by the ever-present danger of dysentery, and all sorts of diseases with little means for treatment. In spite of these frustrating circumstances, many of the soldiers found great consolation and relief through prayer and reading the Bible.Stories of Faith and Courage from the Civil War is a devotional book that opens a rare treasure chest of intimate thoughts and feelings illustrated from the private letters and diaries of both men and women of faith during the Civil War period. The courage and faith examples of these “soldiers of Christ” will inspire both the mind and heart of every reader who desires to have a closer walk with God.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。

Infant baptism requires, however, that parents, godparents and other Christians instruct the child by forming his or her faith. When should this catechesis begin? Is an infant too young to learn the way of Jesusーthe way of love?

Parents today are bombarded with many messages about developing their child's preschool skills, yet faith development resources for parents during these formational years are surprisingly lacking. Though parents are encouraged to raise their child in thefaith, few resources are provided to help families to teach their young children about God.

Faith Beginningshelps parents form and nurture their preschool children’s faith development, even in the earliest stages of life. In an era when preschool child development is being more deliberately understood, one might consider how essential it is to teach children about their faith. The authors provide concrete faith-related activities and suggestions to help parents nurture the faith life of their infant, toddler, and preschool children.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。

    【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】
Good Faith and Truthful Ignorance uncovers from history the fascinating and strange story of Spanish explorer Francisco Noguerol de Ulloa. in 1556, accompanied by his second wife, Francisco returned to his home in Spain after a profitable twenty-year sojourn in the new world of Peru. However, unlike most other rich conquistadores who returned to the land of their birth, Francisco was not allowed to settle into a life of leisure. Instead, he was charged with bigamy and illegal shipment of silver, was arrested and imprisoned. Francisco’s first wife (thought long dead) had filed suit in Spain against her renegade husband.
So begins the labyrinthine legal tale and engrossing drama of an explorer and his two wives, skillfully reconstructed through the expert and original archival research of Alexandra Parma Cook and Noble David Cook. Drawing on the remarkable records from the trial, the narrative of Francisco’s adventures provides a window into daily life in sixteenth-century Spain, as well as the mentalit? and experience of conquest and settlement of the New World. Told from the point of view of the conquerors, Francisco’s story reveals not only the lives of the middle class and minor nobility but also much about those at the lower rungs of the social order and relations between the sexes.
In the tradition of Carlo Ginzberg’s The Cheese and the Worms and Natalie Zemon Davis’ The Return of Martin Guerre, Good Faith and Truthful Ignorance illuminates an historical periodーthe world of sixteenth-century Spain and Peruーthrough the wonderful and unusual story of one man and his two wives.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。

    【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】
The Mind of the Master Class tells of America's greatest historical tragedy. It presents the slaveholders as men and women, a great many of whom were intelligent, honorable, and pious. It asks how people who were admirable in so many ways could have presided over a social system that proved itself an enormity and inflicted horrors on their slaves. The South had formidable proslavery intellectuals who participated fully in transatlantic debates and boldly challenged an ascendant capitalist ('free-labor') society. Blending classical and Christian traditions, they forged a moral and political philosophy designed to sustain conservative principles in history, political economy, social theory, and theology, while translating them into political action. Even those who judge their way of life most harshly have much to learn from their probing moral and political reflections on their times - and ours - beginning with the virtues and failings of their own society and culture.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。

    【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】
Christians and the Color Line analyzes the complex entanglement of race and religion in the United States. Drawing on historical and contemporary examples of racialized religion, the essays in this volume consider the problem of race both in Christian congregations and in American society as a whole. Belying the notion that a post-racial America has arrived, congregations in the US are showing an unprecedented degree of interest in overcoming the deep racial divisions that exist within American Protestantism. In one recent poll, for instance, nearly 70 percent of church leaders expressed a strong desire for their congregations to become racially and culturally diverse. To date, reality has eluded this professed desire as fewer than 10 percent of American Protestant churches have actually achieved multiracial status. Employing innovative research from sociology, history, philosophy, and religious studies, the contributors to this volume use Michael Emerson and Christian Smith's groundbreaking study Divided by Faith (Oxford, 2000)as their starting point to acknowledge important historical, sociological, and theological causations for racial divisions in Christian communities. Collectively, however, these scholars also offer constructive steps that Christians of all races might take to overcome the color line and usher in a new era of cross-racial engagement.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。
