When she thought about it, that is. . . . But then two blue lines appear on her pregnancy test. How does a baby fit in with a hectic job, a chaotic social life, and the absence of Max, the Y chromosome in the equation, who has moved to San Francisco?

Support and dubious advice are provided by an unlikely group that gathers for a weekly coffee get-together at the King Street Cafe. With Debbie the glamorous man-eater, Andrew the fitness junkie, Anna the disaster-prone doctor, and Karen the statistically improbable happily married mother of three, Sophie discovers the ups and downs of motherhood. And when an unexpected business venture and a new man appear on the scene, it appears that just maybe there is life after a baby.

Written by two sisters who live on different continents, Kris Webb and Kathy Wilson, From Here to Maternity is a novel that tackles the balancing of motherhood, romance, and a career, while managing to be seriously funny.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】
Not until the eighteenth century was the image of the tender, full-time mother invented. This image retains its power today. Inventing Maternity demonstrates that, despite its association with an increasingly standardized set of values, motherhood remained contested terrain. Drawing on feminist, cultural, and postcolonial theory, Inventing Maternity surveys a wide range of sourcesーmedical texts, political tracts, religious doctrine, poems, novels, slave narratives, conduct books, and cookbooks. The first half of the volume, covering the mid-seventeenth to the late eighteenth centuries, considers central debates about fetal development, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and childbearing. The second half, covering the late eighteenth to the mid-nineteenth centuries, charts a historical shift to the regulation of reproduction as maternity is increasingly associated with infanticide, population control, poverty, and colonial, national, and racial instability. In her introduction, Greenfield provides a historical overview of early modern interpretations of maternity. She concludes with a consideration of their impact on current debates about reproductive rights and technologies, child custody, and the cycles of poverty.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】
In US security culture, motherhood is a site of intense contestation--both a powerful form of cultural currency and a target of unprecedented assault. Linked by an atmosphere of crisis and perceived vulnerability, motherhood and nation have become intimately entwined, dangerously positioning national security as reliant on the control of women's bodies. Drawing on feminist scholarship and critical studies of security culture, Natalie Fixmer-Oraiz explores homeland maternity by calling our attention to the ways that authorities see both non-reproductive and "overly" reproductive women's bodies as threats to social norms--and thus to security. Homeland maternity culture intensifies motherhood's requirements and works to discipline those who refuse to adhere. Analyzing the opt-out revolution, public debates over emergency contraception, and other controversies, Fixmer-Oraiz compellingly demonstrates how policing maternal bodies serves the political function of securing the nation in a time of supposed danger--with profound and troubling implications for women's lives and agency.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】
Making It Work! How to Effectively Manage Maternity Leave Career Transitions: An Employer’s Guide was developed for anyone who employs, leads, manages, trains, coaches, or otherwise supports pregnant, adoptive, and parenting women in the workplace; including, but not limited to, Human Resource (HR) professionals and practitioners, managers and leaders, business owners, consultants, coaches, and career development practitioners. Whether you have been supporting women on maternity leave for years or you are doing so for the first time, this guidebook is a comprehensive manual that accommodates the diverse needs of all employers.

As an employer, it can be difficult to set aside sufficient time, or find relevant information, to assist employees with maternity leave career transitions, other than information which is typically obtained through an organization’s policies and procedures. However, these resources are often guided by legislation and while useful, this information does not provide organizations with information to help guide employee development. This manual will provide you with both convenient and user-friendly information, which will equip you to adopt a proactive and positive approach in managing maternity leave career transitions. By taking the initiative to effectively manage these transitions, you are setting yourself and your employees up for success.

Written by a team of workplace psychologists and career development experts at Canada Career Counselling and published by the Canadian Education and Research Institute of Counselling (CERIC), the goal of this guidebook, along with the employee version (Making It Work! How to Effectively Navigate Maternity Leave Career Transitions: An Employee’s Guide) is to allow you to understand and address existing or potential obstacles that prevent your organization and working mothers from realizing their potential. This resource provides you with an opportunity to determine leading and promising practices for handling maternity leave transitions, and women’s career development as a whole.

“What has long been a taboo topic between employer and employee, and an often angst ridden journey for expectant mothers and employers alike, now for the first time has a playbook. Not only that, it hits on every note. You need not look any further for how to handle a maternity leave, and run your human capital, with the best information out there. This is progress.”

? Carolyn Lawrence, Leader, Gender Diversity and Inclusion, Deloitte Canada

“After reading through the Canadian Women’s Maternity Leave Career Transitions guidebook, I wish I could have read this before I went through my own maternity leaves a few years ago. It’s a well-researched, well-written guide not only for employers to consider but also for women taking maternity leave. This is an excellent resource for any leave, not just maternity leave. The helpful checklists and definitions are going to provide much needed support for any organization hoping to do better in how maternity leaves, or any leave, is managed.”

? Michelle Beck, VP People & Culture, ATB Financial
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。
